The government is your friend, really
Robert, the insane, right-wing gun-nut firearms enthusiast over at Backroad Blog, has some alarming stuff about a proposal in Washington state to ban "assault weapons", which of course actually means "scary-looking guns that aren't actually used in a lot of crimes but, well, just look like they could be".
If it passes, something Robert thinks is likelier than not, several things will happen. 1) Licensing and background checks will be required on a yearly basis, for a fee of course. 2) The guns can only be fired at a licensed range and not on public lands. 3) They cannot be sold or given away. The only legally way to dispose of them post-ban will be to destroy them, without compensation.
Robert is debating whether or not to sell the several guns he owns whose use would be severely curtailed by the ban.
Although I should be used to this by now, it struck me as pretty shocking that government meddlers are on the verge of making a legal activity so restrictive and costly so that thousands of law-abiding citizens face the destruction of their hobby and significant financial losses.
