White Stripes vs. Coldplay
Heh. After that last post, I thought I'd check out rollingstone.com for their review of the new White Stripes album. Rolling Stone usually annoys the crap out of me, and this review has some eye-rolling lines ("Bad news for Satan: Jack White's mama said knock you out") but they do give props to this hard-rocking, innovative duo.
Oh yeah. What's up with my headline? Rolling Stone gave Get Behind Me Satan 4-1/2 stars. The new Coldplay album, whatever the hell it is, got 3 stars.
"[T]he music is so wild, it could make you weep over how pitilessly the Stripes keep crushing the other bands out there."That's a pretty good two-line description of the album. This album is incredible, but I have yet to tease out all the influences and homages and impressions.
...
"If you happen to be a rock band, and you don't happen to be either of the White Stripes, it so sucks to be you right now."
...
"The Stripes twist a variety of American music styles to their own emotional purpose, figuring out new ways to howl about their romantic torments. For Jack, this means seething, stripped-down ballads full of piano and marimba."
Oh yeah. What's up with my headline? Rolling Stone gave Get Behind Me Satan 4-1/2 stars. The new Coldplay album, whatever the hell it is, got 3 stars.
