One of the best things about the dawn of football season is the return of "Tuesday Morning Quarterback", the best sports column ever.
In his day job, Gregg Easterbrook is a fellow at the Brookings Institution think-tank, and writes serious books like The Progress Paradox. But on the weekends, the guy must fire up a whole rack of VCRs and TiVos, because it sounds like he literally watches all the games.
Easterbrook then brings his considerable eggheadedness to bear on this most physical and brutal of American sports. He notices things like how lineman blocks, the way a QB plants his feet, and what play order a coach calls. He crunches the statistics that others don't, and he always has time to praise the cheerleaders with the skimpiest outfits, reserving special praise for those that brave chilly weather to do so.
In short, this is a highly enjoyable column that you should read if you are into the game. Be warned, though, the columns are long and probably take at least 30 minutes to read all the way through.
