Only The Best

Who's the best team in the NFL?

The Seahawks made a convincing case today that they are, beating the Colts 28-13.

Both teams are now 13-2 and the Seahawks solidly won the only matchup this year.

Of course there is the inevitable "*", in this case, the fact that Peyton Manning played only one quarter, and the Colts also rested seven other starters, including much of their defense.

My take? Phooey.

The Seahawks kept Manning from finding the end zone on both his drives. And they blocked one field goal, so he was only able to add a measly 3 points to the Colts' scoreboard.

Also, the Seahawks struggled a lot this year with injuries to various starters, and in each case the second-stringer stepped up and performed just as well. The Colts just showed that they have no depth. What's going to happen to those guys are three weeks of bone-rattling playoff games? I'd put the Seahawks benchers against those of Indianapolis any day.

Yes, the Colts were also rattled by the tragic death of head coach Tony Dungy's son last week. They could have turned that into emotional momentum, a "Let's win this for the coach" kind of thing. But they didn't.

The Seahawks should take it easy next week against the Packers, but I sure they hope they win. A 14-2 in Seattle of all places would be amazing.

But getting to Detroit in February means easing back a gear or two in Green Bay, then so be it.
