Roger Ebert has a couple of interesting reviews up this week.
The first is for a new movie called "The Great Raid", which is supposed to be an ultra-realistic portrayal of an actual World War II mission to rescue American POWs from a Japanese camp in the Philippines.
The movie is based on Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides, which is one of the most gripping, intensively researched, beautifully written history books I have ever read. It sounds like it shares somewhat the same style as "Black Hawk Down" -- an in-your-face, gritty portrayal of the horrors and heroics of war.
The second of Ebert's must-reads is for "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo". To say Ebert gives Rob Shneider the double-barreled bitch-slap is an understatement. He gives it ZERO stars. It doesn't really do it justice to excerpt it, so just go read the whole thing.
