Yon

Anyone who is interested in how the front lines of the Iraq War are being waged needs to read Michael Yon.

Yon is a freelancer, a blogger really, who is embedded with a U.S. unit in Mosul. His regular dispatches and photos rival anything you will read in the mainstream media.

His latest report, Jungle Law is especially gripping as he discusses chasing down a would-be IED bomber.

You learn some interesting things, such as how a blast can be so hot and quick that it can melt your contact lenses right on your eyeballs. That would certainly suck, and I bet it would take more than a few drops of Visine to take the sting out.
